Module Three: Color Theory & Emotional Effects

.)  Color has the ability to impact a viewer’s emotions.  As seen in the videos, it is used throughout artworks to portray a specific feeling or emotion that the artist wishes to depict.  The use of different hues and intensity’s of color can help display a mood or theme of a painting.   For example, a monochromatic harmony of tints of blues can evoke a calming effect.  The use high intensity reds or yellows may cause the viewer to be alarmed or feel uneasy.
.)  The theoretical aspect of color that most intrigues and fascinates is how it create a tremendous impact on the viewers feelings.  For example, seeing a piece of art that has vibrant colors can create excitement or even uneasiness if they are not blended well.  The use of bright reds when showing blood can also evoke violence and terror.
.)  The biggest impact on me in regards to color and its effects on emotions was the fact that it has a power to make some one feel hatred or disgust.   For example, one of the artists who were commissioned to create paintings for a restaurant he hated used this technique.  He used bright colors to try to create an almost disturbing uneasy feeling for the viewer.  This would impact the viewer to dislike the restaurant as much as he did.
.)  In the feelings video, the biggest impact on men in regards to color and its effects on emotions were the fact that paintings were created throughout history to convey a certain feeling about the time.  For example, the painter Jacque Louie David often portrayed the feeling of resentment in his paintings to show the years of bitterness against authority.
